Here's what I think about Valentine's Day: We should not subscribe to it's commercialism. This is not a "holiday" where you get to expect gifts. I think it's wrong to ask for presents and flowers and nonsense for Valentine's Day. If someone wants to make you feel special, that's very nice. Otherwise, consider yourself lucky to be surviving the winter and that's a gift in itself.
It's sort of a holiday cheer thing. It's something to look forward to during sucky February. It gives us a chance to do nice things for people and wear a special outfit (I'm wearing a red sweater, a pink scarf, and lacy tights. Oh, and a heart bracelet. What fun!) I made (G&D inspired) marshmallow pops for my co-workers, and handed out Store-Bought-In-2010 Mickey Mouse cards. It felt great to do something small but thoughtful to brighten the day:
My big plans tonight include babysitting so Mr. & Mrs. can have a date night...and watching Columbus Neighborhoods; Franklinton on WOSU. I anticipate this will be a very rewarding way to spend Valentine's Day. Jealous?
I am extending a small gesture toward Mike tonight for the "holiday". He IS my Valentine, after all:
I made this. Except the popcorn. I pilfered some ideas, but I don't feel like giving credit, because these pieces are less "original intellectual property" and more "familiar recycled ideas."
Also, I used photoshop again. There's a lot to learn. My one design class helps, but I'm trying to get a better handle on it. Personal and professional development, I say!
Happy
