Psst.

WOMEN OF THE WORLD.

A few weekends ago, my friend Mallory and I drove from Columbus to Cleveland for a day of winery tours with two other college friends of ours. The four of us spent the day talking about politics and wine, and our jobs and literature. Plans for our futures! How we've been spending our days since we last got together!

This was a HUGE relief from the garbage of conversation that's taken over my life  recently.

GOSSIP. Barf.

My friends and I are intelligent. We have lots going on in our lives, lots to talk about, thoughts and ideas of worth...none of it includes putting others down. I'm so sick to death of hearing people criticize the clothing, opinions, lifestyles, mannerisms of everyone else. Especially if you are a woman, smashing other women at every opportunity you have.

Use your brain. You have more to offer than this negative slop. You are more interesting when you bring something to the table other than negativity, insecurity and your crappy mean-girl attitude.

Take the high road. Bite your tongue. Choose NOT to be a nasty, poisonous snake in the conversation. Assume that the people you know are doing their best, with reason, and have something good to contribute.

Be just a LITTLE altruistic* and get outside of your head. Do something good for yourself and others. It's Thanksgiving week, which is an easy time to remember to be kind and thankful, but you have to keep doing it year-round because it's the little things that matter. The day-to-day that builds your character and demonstrates WHO YOU ARE.

*If you don't know what altruism is, look it up. You ought to take a minute to learn about it anyhow.
