My dad is one of my favorite people. My dad is social and loves to be the guy making people laugh at a party. He's great at striking up conversation with anyone and everyone. I admire this in him because I think it generally makes people feel good when he takes an interest in them.
My mom says my dad has the "Perry Sense of Humor", which means he can be very snarky and brazen when making jokes. He is far more kind than he lets on, and has compassion for lots of "underdog" types. He can be a little critical about my decision making and a little unaware of things around him, but he lets me know he loves me by saying "Love ya, kid", and patting me on the head.
We spent Father's Day in Athens, helping my youngest sister move into her new college housing. My mom put him to work installing the air conditioner, taking a look at any suspicious nails and unloading all the heavy stuff. We went to dinner at a delicious Mexican restaurant and enjoyed laughing and eating together at his Alma Mater.
I love my Dad. I wish he would be a little healthier, but despite is affinity for ice cream and cereal, he is a great father to me and my sisters. He teaches us how to be self-reliant and prepared. He does all the "man stuff" so that my sisters and I don't have to worry about it like taxes and car maintenance. He lets us make our mistakes and helps us figure them out when we need it. He always tucked us in at night when we were small, and I'm glad we can go out for a beer now that I'm big!
